Oxford Half, Sunday 11 October: closure order made 5 Oct, Mansfield Road shut from 9am Saturday, race shuttles from 6.30am. Every closure with times.
The Oxford Half is on Sunday 11 October 2026. The half marathon starts at 9.30am on Mansfield Road, the Schools’ Challenge race goes off an hour earlier at 8.30am, and the first road closures go in at 9am on the Saturday, a full day before anyone runs.
Updated 6 October: Oxford Bus has published the race-morning shuttles. The 310 runs from Redbridge park and ride every 3 minutes, 06:30 to 08:30, to the police station on St Aldates; the 320 from Pear Tree every 4 minutes to the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter; the 510 from Unipart House every 6 minutes to Queen’s Lane and the High Street. Return buses run 11:00 to 14:00. No Thornhill shuttle is listed. The county’s order page is dated 5 October and in force from 10 October; its schedules are unchanged.
Updated 5 October: today is the date of the county’s closure order. Its page has not changed: the schedules are as published, and the notice still says the council “proposes” to make it. Oxford City Council says every bike rack on Jowett Walk, Mansfield Road and Broad Street is suspended from 6am on Saturday 10 October, and bikes left locked there will be removed. City park and ride tickets are still not on sale.
Updated 4 October: the organiser’s letter to residents gives an access line for race day, 0303 0401 401 (6am to 4pm only), and confirms 15,000 entries. The county order is still shown as a proposal, due to be made on 5 October; city park and ride tickets are still not on sale.
Updated 29 September: the organiser’s Unipart House event park and ride has sold out. City park and ride tickets are still not on sale, and the closure order is still a proposal due to be made on 5 October.
If you are trying to work out whether your street is affected, or whether you can get a car out on the Sunday morning, the whole answer is below. It comes from Oxfordshire County Council’s own published notice and order for the event, which carries the reference S26-018.
Is it on, and is it confirmed
Yes. Entry closed some time ago: the organiser’s website carries the line “OXFORD HALF 2026 IS OFFICIALLY SOLD OUT” and offers only a 2027 interest list. It is the fifteenth Oxford Half, and the fourth year running it has sold out.
The county council’s order page gives 5 October 2026 as the date of the order, and it comes into force on 10 October 2026. Checked on 6 October, the notice text above it still uses the “proposes to make” wording from the consultation stage, and every road schedule is the same as when it was first published. No change to any closure has been announced, so plan on the times below.
One oddity worth flagging if you read the order yourself: its final article cites the order as the 2025 order and says it takes effect from 11 October 2025. That is a leftover from last year’s text. The notice, every schedule and the seal date all say 2026.
The road closures in full
Cyclists, move your bike by Friday night. Oxford City Council says every bike rack on Jowett Walk, Mansfield Road and Broad Street is suspended from 6am on Saturday 10 October. Bikes still locked to them will be removed and stored for 35 days, then donated or recycled if nobody claims them. The council says the racks will be back by 7am on Monday 12 October. To reclaim a bike, the release gives the contact as stuart.grisbrooke@odsgroup.co.uk.
If you live on the route and need to get a vehicle in or out, the organiser’s road closure letter to residents gives two contacts: roadclosures@motivsports.com before the day, and 0303 0401 401 on Sunday 11 October, open 6am to 4pm only. It says stewards will let vehicles reach Broad Street via High Street and Turl Street until 7.30am, and again from 11am.

This is the one that catches residents out. It is a 36 hour closure, not a race-morning one, because the start and finish structures go up on the Saturday.

| Marston Ferry Road cycle path | Between Oxford Road and Banbury Road | 07:30 to 13:30 |
Both A40 offslips at the Marston junction shut, so the usual way off the ring road into Marston and Summertown is gone for six hours. That is the single biggest thing to plan around if you live in the north or east of the city.
What changes direction, and what stops being enforced
Three normally one-way North Oxford streets are made two-way from 07:30 to 12:15, to give residents a way out while Banbury Road is shut:
- South Parade, between Banbury Road and Stratfield Road
- Oakthorpe Road, between Banbury Road and Stratfield Road
- Thorncliffe Road, between Banbury Road and Oakthorpe Place
Four restrictions are suspended for the day:
| Restriction | Suspended |
|---|---|
| Turl Street, prohibition of motor vehicles | 05:00 to 20:00 |
| Oriel Square, prohibition of motor vehicles | 08:00 to 11:30 |
| St Cross Road traffic filter | 06:00 to 16:00 |
| High Street bus gate, buses, taxis and cycles only | 07:30 to 11:30 |
The St Cross Road filter suspension matters beyond the race: it is one of the six filters covered on our parking page, and it is switched off for ten hours that day.
Permit parking, pay and display and some disabled persons’ bays are suspended along the route. The council’s notice says marshals will manage residential access and deliveries, that some traffic lights may be switched off for marshal control, and that emergency services, event vehicles and controlled access to property are exempt.
Getting there and parking
There is no parking at the event site or in the city centre, and the organiser says so plainly. The event village is in University Parks, OX1 3RF, which is where bag drop, toilets and the information tent go. The start line is Mansfield Road, OX1 3SZ.
For runners driving in, the organiser booked its own event park and ride at Unipart House, OX4 6LX: the car park opens at 06:30, shuttles to Oxford High Street run every 10 minutes between 07:00 and 08:30, and return shuttles run between 11:00 and 14:00. As at 29 September its travel page says “Tickets are now sold out”, so if you have not already booked, that option has gone.
Oxford Bus’s own timetable for the 510 (Unipart House) shows a tighter service than the organiser’s “every 10 minutes”: buses every 6 minutes from 06:30 to 08:30, reaching Queen’s Lane 14 minutes later and the High Street 16 minutes later, with returns from the High Street every 7 or 8 minutes from 11:00 to 14:00.
The organiser lists city park and ride at Redbridge, Pear Tree and Thornhill, with a 07:30 arrival deadline for runners, but as at 6 October it still had not opened ticket sales and warns that a pre-purchased ticket does not guarantee a space because the sites stay open to the public. Oxford Bus has now published two race services, checked 6 October:
| Service | From | To | Race morning | Back after the race |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 310 | Redbridge park and ride | Police station, St Aldates (5 min) | every 3 min, 06:30 to 08:30 | every 4 min, 11:00 to 14:00 |
| 320 | Pear Tree park and ride | Radcliffe Observatory Quarter (8 min) | every 4 min, 06:30 to 08:30 | every 5 min, 11:00 to 14:00 |
| 510 | Unipart House (sold out) | Queen’s Lane, then High Street | every 6 min, 06:30 to 08:30 | every 7 to 8 min, 11:00 to 14:00 |
No race shuttle from Thornhill appears on Oxford Bus’s list of services, so if you were planning to use it, check the organiser’s travel page again before Sunday. Ordinary park and ride charges and the £3 combined ticket are on our parking page.
Coming from London by train does not work. The organiser is blunt about it: the earliest London service into Oxford does not arrive in time to start the race, so either use the Oxford Tube, which runs hourly from 03:15 into Gloucester Green, or come up on the Saturday. The organiser warns that the 06:10 from London Victoria, due in at 07:51, is likely to be busy and may fill, and a ticket bought in advance does not guarantee a seat. From the south there is a Didcot Parkway shuttle, with 06:34, 07:10 and 07:46 departures for a 20 minute run into Oxford station.
Buses run their normal Sunday services but will divert and take longer. Oxford Bus Company still had no race-day diversion notice on its service updates page on 6 October (it lists only the three shuttle timetables), so route-by-route diversions are not yet knowable. Our roadworks and travel page tracks what else is dug up that week.
The route
The course starts and finishes on Mansfield Road and runs past the Sheldonian, the Radcliffe Camera, the Bodleian and the Bridge of Sighs before heading north through Summertown and Cutteslowe, out to Old Marston, and back through University Parks. The organiser labels its own route map “subject to final permissions”. The county council’s closure order is dated 5 October.
Entering, and the charity places
General entry is gone. Charity places are the only remaining route in, and several of the Oxfordshire charities have now sold out of theirs too. Helen & Douglas House, the race’s headline charity, says its 2026 places “have now sold out” and is running a waiting list; its place cost £25 to register with a £250 minimum fundraising pledge. Fees and pledges differ by charity, so check with the individual charity rather than assuming.
The organiser says more than £1.5 million was raised for over 180 charities at the 2025 race.
